Sam Kerr suffers ACL injury during Chelsea’s training camp in Morocco
We discussed the women’s football ACL issue in November
Instead of doing dry January I’m doing why January. It’s where I stand in the middle of the street and scream “WHY OH WHY GOD DOES THE ANTERIOR CRUCIATE LIGAMENT EXIST????”
— Hayley Routley (@hayley_routley) January 7, 2024
It’s been ONE hour and I am already so frustrated with the ACL discourse.
Doing more research on women’s injuries is great, sure. But it would be more productive for everyone if everybody read the research there already is and clubs put better practices in place based on that!
— Becky Taylor-Gill (@beckytaylorgill) January 7, 2024
Unfortunately, there are so many different elements that make it more likely women will tear their ACL, most of which are rooted in sexism. There is no easy fix to a society that treats women athletes differently simply because they are women.

(Thread) There is a real feeling within the women’s game, which comes across in Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema’s excellent documentary, that a unique set of circumstances, including, but not limited to, a lack of strength and conditioning work from a young age…

News
Not only is this incredibly disrespectful, but potentially dangerous for the players.
Launching phones, pens and other items at players who are giving time for the fans is a gross sight.
Player x Fan engagement shouldn’t look like this.

All this discourse about women’s football fandom…
A lot boils down to queer teenagers playing with the ‘canon’ of woso as they begin to form their own identities. Nothing new. Except – unlike fictional characters – it’s being done with real people. Hence… bad stuff.

Shari’s right. Also, I knew everything about R9’s personal life as a kid
I knew the name of his his best freind when he was 14. It was parasocial fandom, and considered normal
There’s definitely a need for nuance, and perspective in any discussion about player-fan interaction https://t.co/arh9uR3MCq
