We’re excited to once again bring you details of Aussies playing in Nordic football leagues (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland). Read on to see how they fared over the last week in our Nordic Wrap!

The Damallsvenskan has a new Aussie! Polly Doran, formerly of Crystal Palace and Melbourne Victory, has signed for Linköping FC and will be available for selection in August.

Fresh off a Palace promotion party (Crystal Palace won the English Championship and earned a WSL place for 2024/25), the Australia U23 defender has decided to call Sweden home for the next two-and-a-half seasons. Doran expressed her excitement in an interview with the club (translation recommended).

Linköping kept the good news coming with a 2-1 home victory over Växjö DFF. Angie Beard remained on the bench.

A determined Kristianstads DFF (4th) held high-flying BK Häcken (2nd) to a scoreless away draw. This was anything but a lifeless encounter, with shots cannoning off posts and crossbars alike. Clare Polkinghorne played a full game for the visitors, as Häcken’s Aivi Luik marked her return to competitive football after a long layoff, coming on in the 25th minute.

Häcken was one of six teams to play twice in the week, with a 1-0 away midweek win over Örebro.

Finally, IFK Norrköping succumbed 3-0 at home to Hammarby, with Vesna Milivojević – who was announced as part of the Serbian squad for their upcoming European Championship qualifiers against Israel and Scotland – playing 62 minutes.

Why win one trophy when you can win two?

FC Nordsjælland completed the Danish double by winning the Kvindeliga and the Danish Cup. Congratulations to Winonah Heatley and Malia Steinmetz!

AGF finished in fifth and can be pleased with the improvement from last season – during 2022-23, they had to fight for a Kvindeliga place in the promotion/relegation playoffs. No such stress for Matilda McNamara and Ally Green this time around.

HB Køge ended the 2023-24 campaign as bronze medallists (3rd place). Daisy Cleverley will not be returning to Køge in 2024-25 – we’ll keep an eye on what decision Claudia Bunge makes for next season.

As there are no Aussies in the Toppserien, Nordic Wrap coverage of the league will pause here and resume if an Aussie joins the league.

Úrvalsdeild karla (As yet, no Aussies have signed up to compete in the 2024 Besta Deild Kvenna competition. If the situation changes, the Aussies in Nordic Football wrap will be sure to cover it!
