We’re excited to once again bring you details of Aussies playing in Nordic football leagues (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland). Read on to see how they fared over the last week in our Nordic Wrap!
A handful of Round 10, 13, and 20 catchup games have taken place in the wake of the Olympic football competition, with the next full round – Round 16 – kicking off this coming weekend.
Kristianstads DFF played in two of those games but also added a third Aussie to their ranks, Remy Siemsen, possibly as cover for the injured Amy Sayer (ACL). No stranger to Swedish football, Siemsen plied her trade with AIK in 2022 in a season that saw the team relegated. She went on to take part in 16 games over two seasons with Leicester City in the WSL before linking up with Kristianstads.
Siemsen didn’t feature in her team’s 1-3 home loss against a IFK Norrköping team featuring Vesna Milivojević. Clare Polkinghorne came off the Kristianstad bench with seven minutes remaining, while Milivojević played the first 75 minutes for the visitors (click below for footage).

The debut occurred in Kristianstad’s 0-0 draw with Vittsjö GIK as Siemsen entered the game just after the hour. Polkinghorne played the full match.

Norrköping also suffered a 1-0 away defeat against Växjö DFF with Milivojević playing the full match.
Aivi Luik‘s BK Häcken enjoyed an important midweek 2-1 away win against Hammarby, with Luik not listed on the teamsheet. This was a Round 20 match played in anticipation, most likely due to Champions League commitments.

Linköping FC succumbed 3-0 away to Hammarby in their Round 13 catchup match. Angie Beard and Polly Doran were the starting fullbacks for the away side, with Beard playing the first half and Doran substituted in the 75th minute.

Ladder
The 53rd edition of the Kvindeliga commenced recently with two rounds completed. The only currently active Aussie in the league is FC Nordsjælland‘s Winonah Heatley, with Kiwi Claudia Bunge also retaining her place in the HB Køge squad.
Nordsjælland began their campaign strongly with two wins. A Round 1 4-0 home win over KoldingQ was followed by a 2-1 away win over HB Køge, a first-half red card to the home side aiding the Nordsjælland cause. Heatley played full games on both occasions.

HB Køge opened their season with a 3-0 away win over newly promoted B.93. Bunge was an unused substitute in both matches.

As there are no Aussies in the Toppserien, Nordic Wrap coverage of the league will pause here and resume if an Aussie joins the league.
