There’s been plenty of domestic and continental action over the last two weeks. Here’s what happened in Europe:
The two Matildas playing in Toppserien had differing results this past fortnight.
Tameka Yallop and her side Klepp have had two losses and a win. Yallop was on the scoresheet in Klepp’s 4-0 victory over Fart.
On the other hand, Aivi Luik’s Avaldsnes has recorded victories against Lyn (3-2), Arna-Bjørnar (2-0), and Lyn (3-1), with the Aussie playing all three games.
The Icelandic season came to an end last week with Grace Maher‘s KR losing 3-1. In her first stint abroad, Maher played 17 of 18 games in the league and four cup matches, and scored two goals. KR finished the regular season seventh in the 10-team league, 31 points behind eventual winners Valur.
Emily Gielnik was an unused substitute in both Bayern Munich’s 5-0 win over Sand and the Bavarians’ 1-0 loss to Göteborg in the Champions League. However, Bayern progressed through to the next round on away goals.
Gielnik then played 20 minutes on the weekend in a 4-0 win over Duisburg.
Alex Chidiac hasn’t seen much game time of late and that has been compounded by an ankle injury which also sees her miss out on the Matildas camp in early October.
In FA WSL Cup action Jacynta Galabadaarachchi came on in the 65th minute as West Ham fell to Chelsea 2-0. She played half an hour at the London Stadium but it was a similarly unfavourable result, this time a 2-0 loss to Tottenham.
Roma defeated Lisa De Vanna‘s Fiorentina 2-0 in the league. De Vanna came on in the 57th minute. The Matildas’ leading goal scorer played a full match against Arsenal in the Champions League but the Gunners were too good, winning 6-0 on aggregate.
