With two Aussies and Matildas competing in the D1 Féminine, Beyond 90 will be keeping readers up to date with how our players, and the teams they’re playing in, are faring.

Paris FC secured the third and last qualifying spot for next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League (joining OL and PSG) with three rounds remaining, while second-tier Rodez AF have earned promotion to the D1 Arkema.

On Good Friday, Paris FC won 3-1 against Montpellier HSC. The Parisians opened the scoring thanks to Clara Matéo, despite two goalline saves (24′). MHSC cracked as they allowed another goal a minute later, with Ouleymata Sarr finding the net. Paris FC then won a penalty kick – Gaëtane Thiney‘s shot hit the crossbar, however the ball rebounded off Lisa Schmitz’s back to make it 3-0. Our Aussie Mary Fowler started for Montpellier, then was  subbed off at halftime for Nérilia Mondésir, who scored the only MHSC goal on 50 minutes.

Paris FC will play in European competition, ten years after their last participation (2012-13). Their head coach, France’s most capped player and former captain Sandrine Soubeyrand couldn’t hide her joy: That’s wonderful! It is the fruit of three seasons of work within Paris FC. It reflects the commitment of an entire club. It rewards the work of the players and the staff. When I signed at the end of 2018, that was one of the objectives. I lived this adventure as a player, it will be the first as a coach. The Champions League is international. We will have to reinvent ourselves with the staff. It will be challenging. It’s been a fabulous season with almost no missteps. We know that 10 teams fight for the third spot every season because the first two are almost impregnable. I am proud of all the work done!”

Paris Saint-Germain didn’t give GPSO Issy a chance of victory, defeating them 6-1. Marie-Antoinette Katoto scored first for PSG on 31 minutes but Issy responded four minutes later with Julie Peruzzetto, who beat Paulina Dudek in an aerial duel. In the second half, Paris SG took the lead when Grace Geyoro scored after a great combination with Sakina Karchaoui (49′), then Sara Däbritz widened the gap, thanks to Geyoro’s backheel assist (65′). Kadidiatou Diani made it 4-1 after capitalising on poor play from Issy (68′), Katoto scored her second goal (83′), and Ramona Bachmann ended the game with a powerful shot on 90 minutes.

Girondins de Bordeaux earned three points after their 2-0 win at Dijon FCO. Katja Snoeijs opened the scoring after Dijon’s goalkeeper Solène Durand spilt the ball (15′). Melissa Gomes‘s header made it two in the 32nd minute, and that was the end of the scoring.

EA Guingamp had a successful away trip, winning 3-1 at AS Saint-Etienne. Maïwenn Renard, free from any marking, made it 1-0 in the 26th minute after a superb one-two combination between Louise Fleury and Sarah Cambot. Ten minutes later, Cambot doubled Guingamp’s lead. Saint-Etienne’s Kelly Gago reduced the deficit on 64 minutes with a great volley, but Guingamp extinguished Guingamp’s hopes of winning almost immediately – Laurie Teinturier sealing the game after high pressing. With this loss, ASSE is getting closer to relegation, while Guingamp have strengthen their chances of survival.

ASJ Soyaux lost 1-2 at home to Stade de Reims. Kethna Louis scored her third goal in three games to give the lead to the visitors on 32 minutes. Camille Collin equalized for Soyaux from inside the box on 50 minutes, but Ukrainian international and D1 Arkema’s public speaking contest winner, Tanya Romanenko, scored a header in the 83rd minute to win the game for Reims.

Finally, Olympique Lyonnais had a tough 2-1 win at fourth placed FC Fleury 91. Defeat for Fleury leaves them 10 points away from third placed Paris FC and therefore unable to qualify for the UWCL. Rosemonde Kouassi gave Fleury the lead after a Wendie Renard error (36′), but Lyon responded immediately thanks to Delphine Cascarino. Catarina Macario provided the icing on the cake for Lyon with 60 minutes played, scoring direct from a corner kick – her sixth goal in her last five appearances for OL. Ellie Carpenter played the entire game.
