Aussies in Nordic football has been a recurring theme over the years and 2023 is no different. Read on to see how Aussies in the Nordic leagues (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) fared during the past week!

Fourteen games – Rounds 13 and 14 – were played over a six-day period in a busy Damallsvenskan week. The league continues unabated until July 9th, just eleven days shy of the commencement of the Women’s World Cup. It then takes a break until early September. As national team players drift into team camps, this could be an interesting period for some teams.

Ladder leaders BK Häcken came out of the week with an expected 3-1 home win against Uppsala and a tightly fought 0-0 away draw with Kristianstads. Aivi Luik played every minute of both games. Häcken maintains a three-point lead at the ladder’s summit.

Kyra Cooney-Cross also played every minute of Hammarby‘s two home wins against bottom three opponents, the first 4-1 against IF Brommapojkarna, and the second 1-0 over Örebro. Cooney-Cross assisted on the goal in the second game, and her team now sits in second place on the ladder.

IFK Norrköping bounced back from a 1-0 away loss to Örebro with a good 3-2 away victory against eighth-placed VäxjöChelsie Dawber started and played 68 minutes in the first game, and was an unused substitute in the second. Norrköping climb to ninth place off the back of that win.

FC Rosengård scored ten goals in total in their two games, first putting five unanswered goals away against bottom-placed Kalmar, then winning 5-2 at home against Uppsala. This pair of games marked an important return to action for Teagan Micah, who played full minutes in both.

Now in fifth place, Rosengård continues their slow climb up the ladder.

Finally, Vittsjö GIK kicked the week off full of promise with a resounding 3-1 home win over then top three side Piteå IF. That feeling may have subsided a little after following up with a 1-1 draw away to Brommapojkarna.

Both Katrina Gorry and Charli Grant played full minutes in the first game, with Gorry recording an assist and receiving a yellow card. Grant’s 87th-minute goal was vital in the second game in which she played full minutes, while Gorry was substituted in the 73rd minute. There is still no sign of Clare Polkinghorne on a Vittsjö team sheet.

The overall result of a topsy-turvy week is that Vittsjö lies in seventh position.
