Aussies in Nordic football has been a recurring theme over the years and 2023 is no different. Read on to see how Aussies in the Nordic leagues (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) fared during the past week!

Round 21 of the Damallsvenskan saw two games featuring Aussies in the squads of both teams.

Amy Sayer is already proving to be a key player in the Kristianstad DFF lineup, with her ability to lay on plays for teammates and get herself into space in attacking positions. Her team has been playing well of late and will be disappointed by being held to a 0-0 draw away to second-from-last IF Brommapojkarna. Sayer played a full game and picked up a yellow card in the 40th minute.

Chelsie Dawber came on in the 74th minute for IFK Norrköping in their 1-0 home loss against BK Häcken. This was the visitor’s first win since the Women’s World Cup, and it came courtesy of a penalty rather than from open play. There’s still no sign of Aivi Luik for them.

The Aussie trio of Clare Polkinghorne, Charli Grant, and Katrina Gorry all played full games – with Gorry picking up the almost obligatory yellow card late in the fixture – in their important 2-1 home victory for Vittsjö GIK against higher-placed Linköping FC. Angie Beard played 86 minutes for the visitors and enjoyed a catchup with her countrywomen.

HB Køge are also undefeated and sit one point behind Nordsjælland in second place. Køge prevailed in a six goal thriller on their travels, defeating AGF 4-2. For Køge, Deborah-Anne de la Harpe and Daisy Cleverley were both subbed at the 75 minute mark, while Claudia Bunge was not selected. Perhaps for both sides it was a case of resting the players who were returning from Football Ferns duty as Ally Green didn’t appear on the AGF team sheet, although Matilda McNamara played her customary 90 minutes for the Aarhus outfit.

There was also plenty of enjoyable off-field time for de la Harpe, who was recently visited by her mother.

AGF had a better time in the 3rd Round of the Danish Cup, travelling to fellow Kvindeliga side Aalborg BK and winning 1-0. Green started in the Cup fixture, while McNamara was not selected.
