Aussies in Nordic football has been a recurring theme over the years and 2023 is no different. Read on to see how Aussies in the Nordic leagues (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) fared during the past week!
Round 2 of the Damallsvenskan saw every Aussie who took the field end up on the winning side.
Aivi Luik played a full game for BK Häcken as they bounced back with a 4-0 away win over newly-promoted Växjö DFF. The win sees Häcken move into fifth place on the ladder.
All three Matildas based at Vittsjö GIK – Katrina Gorry, Clare Polkinghorne and Charli Grant – played 90 minutes during their 2-0 home win over IF Brommapojkarna. Gorry picked up a second yellow card in as many games along the way.

Chelsie Dawber‘s IFK Norrköping have two wins from two games after their 3-0 away win against IFK Kalmar. Dawber contributed 74 minutes to the team currently sitting in second place.

Hammarby‘s winning ways also continued and they sit level on points with Norrköping after their second win, 2-0 away to Uppsala. Kyra Cooney-Cross played out the match in an outing which must have felt like a home game, such was the prevalence of Hammarby fans in the crowd.

Defending Champions FC Rosengård‘s slow start to the season continued with a resounding 4-1 away loss to leaders Linköping. Here at the Nordic Wrap, we attribute this entirely to the fact that Matildas’ keeper Teagan Micah isn’t playing, but this probably doesn’t tell the full story. For now, Rosengård find themselves in unfamiliar territory: 12th place on the ladder.
Here’s some recent footage of Micah at the Matildas camp in the UK, showing that a return to action cannot be far away.

The Elitedivisionen Championship Round began last weekend, with these six teams retaining their points tally from the first phase of the competition. Winonah Heatley‘s FC Nordsjælland had a tough test away to league leaders HB Køge, losing 3-1. Heatley was not selected for the game.

AGF began the relegation playoffs with a 4-0 away win against Sundby. Matilda McNamara and Ally Green played full games, which is definitely good news for AGF’s Aussie/Kiwi pairing.

There was more good news (and nominative determinism) for McNamara as she received a late callup to the Matildas squad for their games against Scotland and England. McNamara will be working hard to earn a second cap for Australia.

The contingent of Aussies playing in the Toppserien happily doubled this week with the announcement and first appearance of Larissa Crummer. Crummer joins Brisbane Roar and Matildas teammate Tameka Yallop at current trophy holders Brann Kvinner, based at Bergen on the west coast.

Crummer played the last 19 minutes (and Yallop the full game) of their 3-2 home win over newly promoted Åsane. Yallop reverted to a midfield role, having played in the attacking line last week. The result sees the team sharing the ladder summit with Rosenborg Kvinner.
