Aussies in Nordic football has been a recurring theme over the years and 2023 is no different. Read on to see how Aussies in the Nordic leagues (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) fared during the past week!

Round 22 of the Damallsvenskan has come and gone and we’re on the home stretch, with just four rounds remaining.

Sixth-placed Kristianstad DFF earned a massive result with a 2-1 away win over the then ladder-topping Hammarby. Amy Sayer played 93 minutes, picking up a yellow card along the way. The Kristianstads coach ranked the performance as the best of the season, in a cup-final-like setting.

In news that was just as good (or perhaps even better, depending on your point of view), the team went out for dinner and to a chocolate factory after the win 🙂

Chelsie Dawber played 78 minutes of IFK Norrköping‘s home 3-0 win over bottom side IFK Kalmar. A Dawber drive that was too hot to handle contributed to their first goal.

It was good to see Aivi Luik returning to the match day squad for league leaders BK Häcken as they drew 1-1 at home with Aussie-laden Vittsjö GIK. Luik didn’t see any game time, but Clare Polkinghorne, Charli Grant and Katrina Gorry all played full games, with the latter once again attracting a yellow card.

The game was remarkable in that the Vittsjö keeper scored the equaliser – something we love to see.

Angie Beard played a full game in Linköping FC‘s 3-2 home victory over fifth-placed Piteå IF, a result that ensures her team remains in the top three.

AGF backed up from last week’s Cup away success against Aalborg BK by returning home and defeating Aalborg BK again! This time the score was 2-0, with Matilda McNamara playing a complete game and Ally Green almost doing likewise (subbed in the 93rd minute).

Our Danish-based ANZACs were getting noticed – Heatley, Green and Bunge all earned selection in the Kvindeliga Team of the Week.

Køge then hosted Nordsjælland in the 3rd Round of the Danish Cup and it would be a dramatic encounter. The score was 1-1 at full time – Nordsjælland won 4-2 on penalties to advance in the competition. Unfortunately, no lineup information is available for Køge, but we do know that Heatley and Steinmetz started for Nordsjælland. Heatley also appeared to be wearing the armband.

Larissa Crummer played a full game in Brann Kvinner‘s 0-0 home draw against the Røa Dynamite Girls, a result which leaves both teams unchanged in fourth and sixth place respectively.
