Aussies in Nordic football has been a recurring theme over the years and 2023 is no different. Read on to see how Aussies in the Nordic leagues (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) fared during the past week!
In the penultimate round of the 2023 Damallsvenskan season, one point separates the top three sides, with Aussies involved in two of those. The final round will be unmissable!
All eyes were on the clash between the top two teams coming into the weekend. Hammarby would triumph 3-2 at home over Aivi Luik‘s BK Häcken in front of a packed home crowd, with all three goals coming during a dominant opening 23 minutes. Luik played the entire match as her team switched places with their opponents on the ladder, now in second place.

At the other end of the difficulty spectrum, third-placed Linköping FC thrashed winless Kalmar 15-1 away, with the home side’s thoughts perhaps already on their Christmas break. Angie Beard played 83 minutes for the visitors and recorded an assist on one of the goals.

Charli Grant sat out Vittsjö GIK‘s 1-0 home win over Chelsie Dawber‘s IFK Norrköping due to a red card in the dying moments of her last outing. Katrina Gorry and Clare Polkinghorne both played full games for the home side – with Gorry picking up a now-customary yellow card – while Dawber came on at halftime for the visitors.
The game was Vittsjö striker Clara Markstedt’s final home game after eight distinguished seasons with the club, as her career draws to a close.

FC Nordsjælland are back on top of the Kvindeliga after a 2-0 home triumph over AGF at the wonderfully-named Right To Dream Park. Winonah Heatley and Malia Steinmetz played full games for the Tigers. Our AGF duo had mixed fortunes: Ally Green started and played 73 minutes, while Matilda McNamara was once again a starter but saw red after 50 minutes for denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity.

HB Køge‘s away trip to Brøndby ended with a 2-0 defeat. There is little to report on in terms of playing time, with Deborah-Anne de la Harpe being an unused substitute and Køge’s Kiwi duo (Claudia Bunge & Daisy Cleverley) not being selected for this fixture.
We’ll end this section with Ally Green and Deborah-Anne de la Harpe’s Italian adventures.

There is no tougher Toppserien road trip at the moment than taking on leaders Vålerenga at home, so fourth-placed Brann Kvinner will be quietly satisfied with their 1-1 result. Larissa Crummer played a full match for the visitors, but with two rounds remaining, Brann is unable to catch the top three teams.
