Aussies in Nordic football has been a recurring theme over the years and 2023 is no different. Read on to see how Aussies in the Nordic leagues (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) fared during the past week!
Defending Champions FC Rosengård kicked off Round 4 of the Damallsvenskan at home. Now under coach Joel Kjetselberg, they finally have something to smile about after their game against Vittsjö GIK, in which Rosengård ran out convincing 4-0 winners to record their first victory of the season. Charli Grant played all but three minutes of the game for Vittsjö, while Clare Polkinghorne and Katrina Gorry were not selected – there has been no formal word as yet on the extent of Gorry’s shoulder injury sustained late in her previous game. Teagan Micah is yet to return to the Rosengård squad.
Chelsie Dawber took the field at halftime for IFK Norrköping in their nailbiting 3-2 win over Djurgården, a result which keeps them in the top two.

Aivi Luik played another full game for BK Häcken as her team swept away bottom-of-the-ladder IFK Kalmar 3-0 at home to sit in fourth place on the ladder.

Finally, Kyra Cooney-Cross played a full game for Hammarby, closing out the round with a strong 3-1 away win over tricky opponents Linköping. The win keeps Hammarby at the summit of the league standings.

Matilda McNamara and Ally Green would have been delighted after last weekend’s events! AGF travelled to NIF / HG and won 7-0 to register their third win of the Elitedivisionen relegation playoffs. McNamara played a full game and Green was subbed on in the 66th minute.

Winonah Heatley returned to the FC Nordsjælland starting lineup and the Tigers won on the road, defeating Thy ThistedQ 2-0. Heatley played for the full 90 minutes.

Larissa Crummer played a full game as part of a front three for Brann Kvinner in their narrow 3-2 home loss against ladder leaders, Elise Thorsnes‘ Vålerenga. The Round 5 Toppserien fixture capped off a busy week, after a 0-0 away draw midweek to Avaldsnes. The net result is that Brann has slipped to fourth place on the ladder.
Tameka Yallop remains sidelined with a foot injury sustained during the Matildas’ recent win over England.

Although the 2023 Besta Deild Kvenna competition (rebadged last season from the Úrvalsdeild) kicked off on April 26th, as yet no Aussies have signed up to compete. If the situation changes, the Aussies in Nordic Football wrap will be sure to cover it!
