We’re excited to once again bring you details of Aussies playing in Nordic football leagues (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland). Read on to see how they fared over the last week in our Nordic Wrap!

With the top three sorted several weeks ago, all eyes were on the foot of the table in the final round of the 2024 Damallsvenskan season.

Jada Whyman‘s AIK needed to continue their run of form and win away against fifth-placed IFK Norrköping to open the door to the possibility of leaving the relegation zone. The odds were against them but a magnificent effort saw them take the game 3-2.  Neither Whyman nor the home team’s Vesna Milivojević were on the match card for this one.

The AIK win meant that their guaranteed inclusion in the competition in 2025 rested with Linköping FC‘s ability to overcome some average recent form and graft at least a point at home against Vittsjö, a team three ladder positions above them. The home side lifted when they needed it most with a 3-2 win, avoiding the relegation zone and consigning AIK to playoff games against Umeå IK. Polly Doran entered the game in the 84th minute, while  Angie Beard didn’t see time off the bench.

Fourth-placed Kristianstads DFF finished the season strongly with a 5-0 away win at bottom-placed Trelleborg. The Aussies in the away side ran riot, with Remy Siemsen bagging a hat-trick and an assist, while Clare Polkinghorne recorded an assist of her own.

Finally, Aivi Luik played 78 minutes of second-placed BK Häcken‘s 5-1 away win over IF Brommapojkarna. The win rounded out a season in which Häcken lost only two games.

FC Nordsjælland bounced back from defeat last time out by recording a 2-0 home victory over B 93. Winonah Heatley wore the rainbow armband and played a full game, while Malia Steinmetz came off the bench in the 63rd minute. The Tigers sit in 2nd place, with the same points tally as Kvindeliga pacesetters Fortuna Hjørring.

Heatley has been selected in the latest Matildas squad, however our understanding is that she will only be available for the games against Brazil.

Ally Green enjoyed another 90 minute outing as AGF drew 0-0 away to Odense Q. This point earned on AGF’s travels could prove to be vital in their quest to avoid the promotion/relegation playoff – the Aarhus side are in 6th, just above the bottom two places on the ladder.

Meanwhile, Kolding fought hard against the league leaders but were eventually overrun, losing 5-2 to Fortuna Hjørring. Ava Collins started and played 57 minutes.

As there are no Aussies in the Toppserien, Nordic Wrap coverage of the league will pause here and resume if an Aussie joins the league.

Úrvalsdeild karla (As yet, no Aussies have signed up to compete in the 2024 Besta Deild Kvenna competition. If the situation changes, the Aussies in Nordic Football wrap will be sure to cover it!
