We’re excited to once again bring you details of Aussies playing in Nordic football leagues (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) in 2024. Read on to see how they fared over the last week in our Nordic Wrap!

In Round 3 of the Kvindeliga’s second phase, AGF were defeated 1-0 on their travels by Fortuna Hjørring – a late goal from Hjørring youngster Josefine Valvik was the difference. Matilda McNamara played the second half, and Ally Green was subbed on for the final quarter of an hour.

FC Nordsjælland equalised twice in their home fixture against league leaders Brøndby, however the Tigers would eventually lose 3-2 after a 95th minute goal from Dajan Hashemi. Winonah Heatley played a complete game and Malia Steinmetz all but did the same – the Football Fern was subbed in the 90th minute.

A late goal worked in HB Køge’s favour, as Emelia Óskardóttir’s 89th minute strike earned a 1-1 home draw with Kolding. Claudia Bunge played the first half, while Daisy Cleverley was subbed on in the 57th minute.

The league now pauses for the international break. Heatley will be hoping to make her Matildas debut against Mexico in San Antonio, while Green, Steinmetz, Bunge and Cleverley are looking forward to a two game series between New Zealand and Thailand in Christchurch.

Just after Brann Kvinner were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Barcelona at the quarter-final stage, Larissa Crummer announced that she had just played the last game of her professional career.

Crummer joined Brann in early 2023, making 24 league appearances. She explained in the video that she was looking forward to spending time with her young family, and she plans to commence working as a plumber.

With no Aussies left in the Toppserien, Nordic Wrap coverage of the league will pause here and resume in the event another Aussie joins the league.

While the 2024 Damallsvenskan does not commence until April 13th, we look forward to bringing you the exploits of Aivi Luik (BK Häcken), Angie Beard (Linköping FC), plus Clare Polkinghorne and Amy Sayer (Kristianstads DFF).

Joining this fab four is Australian-raised Serbian international Vesna Milivojević, who has signed for IFK Norrköping. The announcement comes off the back of Milivojević’s second campaign with Canberra United, which was good enough for the Dubzone panel to vote her as the ‘one to watch’ amongst players who were 21 years old or younger at the start of the 2023-24 season (29 minutes and 17 seconds in).

The Svenska Cup semi-finals were played on the weekend, with Luik playing the first half of Häcken’s narrow 7-6 win on penalties against Hammarby – the scores were locked at 1-1 after extra time. Keeper Jennifer Falk stood tall for Häcken, as can be seen in the highlights below.
