Four Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) are hosting Aussie players this year. Read on to see how they fared during the past week!
The final round of the Toppserien was played on the weekend and for one Aussie, it meant hoisting a championship trophy.
Tameka Yallop‘s Brann Kvinner was in the driving seat at the start of the weekend, leading by three points over Rosenborg. A 3-3 home draw against Karly Roestbakken and Fiona Worts‘ LSK Kvinner saw Brann win the championship, and they now look forward to the Championship playoffs, which will be a four-team round-robin competition. (More on playoff details next Wrap!)

Yallop played a full game, and while neither Roestbakken nor Worts were available for selection, a welcome progress update on one of them was posted:
LSK Kvinner will be contesting the Relegation playoffs, an eight-team round-robin that includes the best two teams from the Norwegian second tier of football (Division 1).
Ally Green will be joining Yallop in the Championship playoffs. Green’s Vålerenga was a chance of taking out second place (‘silver’), especially after Rosenborg lost 2-1 away to Lyn. However, it was not to be as Vålerenga was defeated 3-1 away by fifth-placed Kolbotn, with Green not on the match card.
Vålerenga takes the bronze medal position in season 2022.

Five out of the six teams containing Aussies managed at least a point in their Round 18 Damallsvenskan games.
After losing to ladder-topping FC Rosengård most recently, Aivi Luik‘s fourth-placed BK Häcken‘s task was hardly any easier, facing third-placed Kristianstad away. Häcken bounced back strongly with a 2-1 win which closes the gap between the two teams to four points. Luik played a full game in a centre-back role.

As for Rosengård, Teagan Micah played a full game in their home top-of-the-table clash against Linköping. Micah and company ran out 1-0 winners, missing a penalty along the way, which opens up a five-point gap between the teams.

Mid-table Vittsjö GIK may have been disappointed with their 1-1 home draw against 11th-placed Kalmar, but not with Clare Polkinghorne‘s second half goal.

Polkinghorne, Katrina Gorry and Charli Grant all played the full 90 minutes.
Remy Siemsen wasn’t on AIK‘s match card for their bottom two fixture with IF Brommapojkarna. AIK did well to force a 1-1 draw after Julia Olsson was sent off for a second yellow in just the 44th minute, leaving AIK with ten players.

Finally, four Aussies started in Umeå IK‘s home game against Hammarby. Emma Checker (Umeå) and Kyra Cooney-Cross (Hammarby) pulled full shifts in Hammarby’s 3-0 win, while Elise Kellond-Knight and Courtney Nevin both played 61 minutes for Hammarby.

With Matilda McNamara’s AGF Aarhus and Winonah Heatley’s FC Nordsjælland having the weekend off, there was only one Elitedivisionen game involving Aussies.
Fortuna Hjørring travelled to Capelli Sport Stadion for a meeting with last season’s undefeated champions, HB Køge. Angie Beard and Indiah-Paige Riley played full games as Fortuna went down 1-0 after a first half strike from Cecilie Fløe. It wasn’t all bad news for Beard – her efforts were rewarded with a place in the league’s Team of the Week.

The result means Køge maintain their 100% winning record, while Fortuna are three points behind them in second place. Nordsjælland are fifth and AGF are eighth – let’s hope those two can find some form after the international break.
