Four Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) are hosting Aussie players this year, read on to see how they fared in the past week!

A significant week for Fortuna Hjørring began brightly when they registered a 4-0 home victory over Thisted FC in Round 7 of the Danish Elitedivisionen Championship round-robins. Indiah-Paige Riley once again impressed, catching the visitor’s defence napping on a free kick with her dash towards the Thisted by-line. Her centred delivery was met with authority for the team’s third goal, as can be seen in the below highlights. The Aussie trio of Riley, Angie Beard and Clare Wheeler all started, with Beard and Riley contributing 75 minutes and Wheeler the full 90 minutes.

The win grants Fortuna an important mental advantage when they meet the same opposition in the Women’s Cup Final this Friday.

Round 6 of the promotion/relegation playoffs saw Jenna McCormick‘s AGF Aarhus defeat Aalborg 2-0 at home to maintain their second placing. McCormick played out the full game.

Round 8 of the Toppserien showcased the top four teams in games against each other, with both games involving Aussies either directly or indirectly.

Ally Green was once again unable to force herself into the matchday squad for ladder-topping Vålerenga‘s home game against second-placed Brann. The ensuing 1-1 draw means that both teams retain identical records this season – seven wins and one draw each.

Fourth-placed LSK Kvinner hosted third-placed Rosenborg in a game where neither team could wrest the advantage from their opponents. There were good periods for both sides but they were to finish with a point apiece after neither goalkeeper could be beaten.

LSK’s Karly Roestbakken played the last few minutes, while team-mate Fiona Worts didn’t receive any time off the bench.

These two draws mean that there is no change to the order of the top four teams on the competition ladder.

The Toppserien will now take a short break, however there is Norway Cup action on May 18th and 19th.

Round 7 of the Damallsvenskan was played over the weekend.

Teagan Micah started and Charli Grant came on late for FC Rosengård during their 3-0 away victory over Umeå IK. Rosengård now has a two point buffer at the top of the table after BK Häcken drew their weekend fixture.

Eleventh-placed Hammarby would have been hopeful of a home victory over sixth-placed Vittsjö GIK when they took a 2-1 lead at the 79th minute. However, Clare Polkinghorne has become a goal threat for Vittsjö and equalised three minutes later, ensuring the points were shared.

Both Courtney Nevin (for Hammarby) and Katrina Gorry (for Vittsjö) received yellow cards, and all three Aussies played a full game. Kyra Cooney-Cross was not selected in Hammarby’s matchday squad.

Vittsjö also had an early start to Round 8, winning their midweek away game against Kalmar 1-0. Gorry and Polkinghorne both played a full game in what has been a physically demanding period.

Remy Siemsen played 80 minutes during AIK‘s home 4-2 loss to Djurgården. With some hard work ahead of them, the two goals they scored may give AIK some momentum and a way forward out of the bottom two.

Úrvalsdeild karla (

It was a good week in more ways than one for Melina Ayres. Her Breiðablik team recorded a 3-0 home win against Stjarnan during Round 3 of the Úrvalsdeild Kvenna, with Ayres scoring the first and third goals (the latter from the penalty spot) during her 69 minutes on the park. After two wins from three games, Breiðablik occupies second place on the ladder.

Ayres was also able to see a familiar face during the week, even if that face was somewhat… hidden.

Margaux Chauvet‘s KR Reykjavik continues to find the going tough back in the top flight. They lost 2-0 at home against IBV, and while Chauvet played the full game, Susan Phonsongkham was once again not on the team sheet.
