B90 Podcast

In this W-League Round 8 podcast, co-founder of ShePlays Fantasy League Ben Laws is our special guest. Molly and Cheryl round out the panel to discuss the week of W-League football, plus Sam Kerr’s FAWSL debut with Chelsea.

If you’re not across ShePlays already, it may be time to listen in and get some hot tips in this W-League fantasy competition. It’s free to play and heaps of fun (even if you’re losing).

Ben shares how ShePlays has accelerated women’s football taking over his life, from the early days in 2016 when the competition was between a few friends and managed with an excel spreadsheet, to now with a dedicated website and plans to grow across more leagues.

ShePlays fills a hole in the market with women’s sports and leagues often left out of the picture when it comes to fantasy sports.

Round 8 was cut short, with the Canberra United v Sydney FC match postponed due to smoke from the devastating Australian bushfires, whilst the three other matches played out successfully.

Melbourne City took the honours in a tough match against Brisbane Roar. Molly highlights that when City is on, it’s just “Bam bam bam” and over.

Ben learnt a valuable lesson from Perth Glory’s late equaliser against Adelaide United where Mallory Weber and Crystal Thomas both impressed.

Melbourne Victory scraped past an impressive Newcastle Jets. Darian Jenkins delivered a birthday present goal, while Clare Wheeler bossed in the midfield.

This time last season, a total of 97 goals were in the bag compared to 85 so far in Season 12. Are the forwards failing to fire? Or as Molly highlights, we’re struggling to see a number 9 in form and the goalkeepers are leading the pack.

Milica Mijatovic keeps climbing up the B90 Player of the Season tally. Who do you think should be in the running for Player of the Season so far?

Sam Kerr had her exciting debut in the FAWSL with Chelsea up against Reading. Kerr was amongst it from the first minutes and already seems to have a great rapport with Chelsea striker and England international Beth England.
