The Matildas will take on reigning world champions the United States as part of their preparations for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The match will be held on 4 April 2019 (5 April AEDT) at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado.

It will be the 29th occasion Australia and the USA have met, with recent fixtures seeing close contests between the two nations.

The World Cup warm up will be a crucial indicator of how the Matildas preparations ahead of the tournament in June.

“The USA are one of the favourites to win next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup so it is fantastic that we will be able to play them just a couple of months before the start of the tournament in France,” said Matildas Head Coach Alen Stajcic.

“Come April next year many of our players will be playing their club football in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), so it also makes sense from a logistical perspective to arrange a camp and friendly in North America as we continue to prepare for the World Cup.”

The last time Australia met the USA was in the 2018 Tournament of Nations, with Chloe Logarzo’s strike cancelled out by a late Lindsey Horan header.

The Matildas are also set to announce a number of international friendlies on the road to France.

“We expect to play a further five or six matches prior to the start of next year’s World Cup,” he said.

Additional Westfield Matildas matches to be played both at home and abroad in the lead up to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France will be announced in due course.

The draw for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be held on Sunday 9 December 2018 from 4.00am (AEDT) in Paris, France.
