Queens, Kings and Themperors of the Week

Ally – Everton beat Chelsea, inflicting their first league loss since May 2024. The Toffees won despite only having 21% possession, but as Everton fan Dale Roots would say, “they don’t draw pictures on the scoresheet”. Credit to Courtney Brosnan for her goalkeeping performance against Chelsea.

Dale – the letter “L”, as in the L Chelsea took when Everton beat them

Emma – Rebekah Stott scored the winning goal in The Dronegate Derby (Melbourne City v Wellington Phoenix), thus continuing to be the bane of Bev Priestman’s existence. (Context: Bev Priestman’s time as Canada WNT head coach ended when the team was found to have been using drones to spy on opposition training sessions. The first person to discover this was Rebekah Stott, who while at a New Zealand WNT training session, realised they were being spied on because she recognised the model of Canada’s drone by the sound that it made.)

Eric – 1) Shab Roshan earned her first appointment as an A-League Women centre referee 2) Hazzana Parnell and her daughter, Remaya Osbourne, recently became one of the first mother-and-daughter duos to play side-by-side in the Women’s FA Cup, taking the pitch together for Hednesford Town Women in their second-round match against Sporting Khalsa.
