Podcast

Two special guests and one very excited Cheryl! Molly Appleton and Rae Dower join the pod to discuss the recent Junior Matildas training camp.

The camp is the first in the lead up to Round 1 of the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup 2022 Qualifiers to be held in Cessnock, NSW in September 2021.

Introduction: Rae Dower

  • Football Australia Women’s Technical Advisor (contracted to end 2022)
  • Head Coach Women’s U17 National Team (since 2017)
  • AFC Pro Diploma
  • Canberra United Head Coach (seasons 8&9)
  • Career as Detective Sergeant – 20 years

Summary

Cheryl’s curiosity leads to questions about:

  • Ripping the bandaid off for a big career change from the Police Force to Football?
  • The connection between teaching and coaching?
  • Are there enough opportunities for women to coach professionally/full time?
  • What’s the scope of a Technical Advisor role?

Molly lifts the lid on the East Coast bias (hint: there is none) and queries the age eligibility changes for the Asian Cup.

Overall, this is a super pod to listen to, get into it!
