Pinch us! Dale, Eric and Cheryl are so lucky to have a special guest who is part of the heart and soul of the Matildas – Sarah Walsh.

You definitely won’t want to miss this episode!

Background

Walsh’s Twitter profile identifies her as a “Matilda at heart” but “Walshy” is so much more than a footballer and has become one of the most influential women in the game.

Debuting in 2004 in New Zealand, Walsh appeared 76 times for the Matildas, including being part of the Championship-winning 2010 AFC Women’s Asian Cup squad.

Walsh last played international football more than eight years ago (19 Sep 2012) in a friendly against the United States. Since then she has made a terrific contribution to football and is currently the Head of Women’s Football in Australia.

She also played for Sky Blue FC in 2009 before winning the W-League title with Sydney FC in Season 2009/2010 and later playing for Western Sydney Wanderers.

Pod Summary

Walsh discusses her recent International Women’s Day presentation on “Imposter Syndrome” at the Future Women Leadership Summit.

The pillars of Legacy ’23 also get some attention as she discusses the XI Principles and the Memorandum of Understanding between Football Australia and Football NZ

She also appeared on the “Legacy ’23: Executives Panel” discussion which you can watch on Facebook.

We reflect on the amazing footballers Walsh played with, including those still playing (Melissa Barbieri, Leena Khamis, Clare Polkinghorne) and those making a difference off the park – Kate Gill (PFA Co-Chief Executive), Heather Garriock (Australian Taekwondo CEO), and previous podcast guest Leah Blayney (Head Coach – Australia Young Matildas (U20) and Future Matildas).
