The 2018/19 W-League season saw more National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) players tearing it up on Australian shores than ever before.
Many of these players are now back in the US preparing for the 2019 NWSL season, which kicks off on April 14.
Here is Beyond90’s Quick Guide to the NWSL so that you can keep track of where all your favourite Australian and international W-League players will be headed for the upcoming NWSL season.
NORTH CAROLINA COURAGE
Head Coach:
Paul Riley
2018 Record:
(W-D-L) 17-6-1
Overview and Notable Players:
It’s not easy to go undefeated in the NWSL. However, North Carolina Courage were on track to do just that in the 2018 season until a late-minute goal by Utah Royals in round 18 handed the team their only loss of the year.
As the only team in league history to win both the NWSL Shield and Championship, the Courage made very few changes in the off-season. The Courage is bringing back the core of the team including fan favourites Jessica McDonald, Lynn Williams, McCall Zerboni and Heather O’Reilly, as well as newcomers Stephanie Labbé and Ally Haran. They’ve also picked up 2019 college draftees Leah Pruitt, Hailey Harbison, Lauren Milliet and Kaycie Tillman.
Australian Players:
None.
W-League Notes:
Irish international and 2018 Courage MVP Denise O’Sullivan played seven games with Canberra United on loan as a guest player. She played her last game for the team in December against Melbourne City.
