Following wins over Nepal (11-1) and Myanmar (3-1), the Westfield Young Matildas have sealed their qualification for the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship after defeating Uzbekistan 4-1.
Melbourne Victory midfielder Kyra Cooney-Cross was first on the scoresheet just before half-time, followed by goals from Sydney FC’s Princess Ibini-Isei, Bankstown City’s Mary Fowler, and Melbourne City’s Chelsea Blissett.
The team finished undefeated at the top of Group A, scoring 18 goals and conceding just three.
The Young Matildas will now go through to the finals of the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship in Thailand in October and November 2019, where they will face Thailand (hosts), Japan, DPR Korea, Korea Republic, and China PR.
The top three from this finals series will qualify for the 2020 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in either India or Korea Republic.
