With two Aussies and Matildas competing in the D1 Féminine, Beyond 90 will be keeping readers up to date with how our players, and the teams they’re playing in, are faring.

A Sara Däbritz banger helped PSG to a 5-0 derby win against FC Fleury 91, and the reigning champions stand at the top of the table in front of Olympique Lyonnais and Paris FC. Paris FC blew out EA Guingamp in an impressive 4-1 win and ASJ Soyaux took three points in a 2-0 win against FF Issy. Meanwhile, newly promoted AS Saint-Etienne surprised Girondins de Bordeaux with a 1-1 draw in one of the highlights of the opening round.

Olympique Lyonnais defeated Stade de Reims 3-0 after a good first half with aggression in the front lines, and dangerous corner kicks which led to two goals. Australian player of the year Ellie Carpenter entered play in the 72nd minute. In a confident and effective performance, goals from Amel Majri, Selma Bacha and an own goal set the level for the following games. OL’s gameplay involves a lot of activity in wide areas of the field so we can expect many opportunities for Ellie Carpenter to shine again and again – probably including next week’s derby between OL and AS Saint-Etienne.

Mary Fowler wasn’t on Montpellier HSC’s team sheet as they had a tougher game against Dijon, leading 1-0 until the 75th minute thanks to last year’s topscorer Lena Petermann. Dijon equalised, but in a late drama show Sarah Puntigam gave Montpellier the win with a last-minute direct free kick! However, the team has not resolved their defensive issues and their playmaking. Their opponents Dijon FCO called this game a “cruel epilogue”.
