Aussies in Nordic football has been a recurring theme over the years and 2023 is no different. Read on to see how Aussies in the Nordic leagues (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) fared during the past week!

The remaining Aussies involved in the Damallsvenskan were the last ones to arrive at the Matildas World Cup camp due to Round 17 being played on the weekend.

BK Häcken enters the summer break as the clear competition leader, defeating Örebro 2-1 at home.  As has been customary this season, Aivi Luik played the full 90 minutes in a centre-back role.

Hammarby played out a second scoreless draw in succession but this time at home against tougher opposition in fourth-placed Piteå IF. Kyra Cooney-Cross played the full match, receiving a yellow card in the process. The two draws haven’t hurt Hammarby too much as far as ladder position and they remain in the top three.

Vittsjö GIK continued their stunning recent form with a 5-1 home win over Djurgårdens. For the second successive game, Charli Grant assisted on a goal, the third of five. Katrina Gorry wasn’t in the matchday squad, having chosen to make her way back to Australia a little earlier, joining Clare Polkinghorne in the Matildas squad.

Teagan Micah played her fifth full game for FC Rosengård since her return from a serious concussion in their 3-1 home loss against Linköping.  Linköping now sit in second place, while Rosengård seems to have hit a bit of a wall in trying to break into the top four or five teams, having risen from an uncharacteristically slow start to their season.

Micah made it publicly known this week that this is her last stint with Rosengård and that she will be moving on.

Finally, IFK Norrköping defeated IF Brommapojkarna 2-0 away from home, with Chelsie Dawber entering the game at halftime in a pattern that’s become the norm over the last couple of months.

AGF – with Matilda McNamara and Ally Green on board – recently topped the Gjensidige Kvindeliga Qualification playoffs, sealing their 2023-24 Elitedivisionen spot. AaB joins AGF in the competition by virtue of coming second behind AGF.

The champions group playoffs finished as follows, with all teams (including Heatley’s Nordsjælland) set to participate in the forthcoming Elitedivisionen. HB Køge claimed the gold medal for the third year running, thereby qualifying for the Champions League along with silver medallists Brøndby IF.

The Toppserien is already in the summer break, but in the most recent Round 17, Larissa Crummer played the opening 75 minutes for Brann Kvinner in their 3-2 away win over second-last Arna-Bjørnar. Tameka Yallop has not pulled on the boots in a Brann matchday for some time, and both Aussies are back home at present.
