Aussies in Nordic football has been a recurring theme over the years and 2023 is no different. Read on to see how Aussies in the Nordic leagues (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) fared during the past week!

A Player of the Match performance for one Matilda and an injury scare for another headlined Round 3 of the Damallsvenskan.

Aivi Luik played a full game for BK Häcken as her team put on a dominant performance away to Vittsjö GIK and their three Matildas. Three second half goals with none in reply saw Häcken take the match convincingly.

Clare Polkinghorne and Charli Grant played full games for the home side, but Katrina Gorry was forced to leave the game with five minutes remaining after an opponent fell with her full weight on Gorry’s shoulder. We are yet to learn of Gorry’s prognosis and expected recovery time.

Chelsie Dawber‘s IFK Norrköping dropped their first points of the season with a 2-2 away draw against newly promoted IK Uppsala. Dawber contributed 63 minutes towards a result that sees her team perched in the top three. Translation of the tweet below: “Top three in both series after three rounds”.

Hammarby leapt to top spot after a commanding 6-1 home win over bottom-placed Växjö DFF. Kyra Cooney-Cross recorded an assist in her Player of the Match performance, continuing her outstanding Swedish club form.

Defending Champions FC Rosengård‘s slow start continued with a 2-1 away loss to Djurgården, as speculation swirled regarding possible squad imbalance. A proud club with high expectations, head coach Renée Slegers was relieved of her duties on Monday, replaced by assistant Joel Kjetselberg.

While the team finds themselves in third last position for the second week running, this season has a long way to go and Matildas keeper Teagan Micah is yet to return to the squad.

McNamara would have appreciated the run out as she didn’t receive any playing time during the recent international window. Although she didn’t see the field for the Matildas, she was still involved in this striking photo shoot.

Current Toppserien title holders Brann Kvinner played out a scoreless Round 3 draw against LSK Kvinner in the LSK Hall. Brann and LSK are two of four teams yet to incur a loss this season. Larissa Crummer played a full game at the point of Brann’s attack, but Tameka Yallop is currently sidelined with a foot injury sustained during the Matildas’ recent win over England.
