Aussies in Nordic football has been a recurring theme over the years and 2023 is no different. Read on to see how Aussies in the Nordic leagues (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) fared during the past week!

Round 5 of the Damallsvenskan commenced with Aivi Luik‘s BK Häcken at home against Chelsie Dawber‘s IFK Norrköping. Luik played a full game while Dawber came on for the last half hour as the home side took the spoils with a single goal. The effect on the top end of the ladder was significant, with Norrköping slipping from second to fifth, and Häcken climbing one place to third.

If FC Rosengård were serious about kickstarting their season after their best result of the campaign last round, they would have been desperate to dispatch bottom three side IF Brommapojkarna. Rosengård’s 3-1 away win shows that perhaps they are on the way to regaining their mojo, even if Teagan Micah still isn’t available for selection.

After a couple of disappointing results that coincided with their Aussie contingent’s unavailability, Vittsjö GIK battled to a 2-1 home victory over KIF Örebro. Katrina Gorry was an unused substitute, while neither Charli Grant nor Clare Polkinghorne was on the team sheet. Polkinghorne was spotted with crutches in the background of team celebrations below, but – thankfully – no moon boot.

Finally, Hammarby survived a 1-0 away thriller against Djurgården, playing the last 25 minutes with 10 players after a red card was brandished at Swedish international Madelen Janogy. Kyra Cooney-Cross assisted for the goal and was substituted on 79 minutes. Hammarby leads the competition by three points after five rounds.

Winonah Heatley played the second half of FC Nordsjælland‘s home game against Brøndby but her team wasn’t able to recover from conceding in the first half – Brøndby won 1-0.

Brann Kvinner played two Toppserien games within four days and the exertions were perhaps telling. While they would have been favourites for their robust 3-1 away win over Stabaek on the weekend, no-one would have anticipated a subsequent 2-1 home loss in the Bergen derby against bottom-of-the-ladder Arna-Bjørnar. The net result is that Brann remains in fourth place on the ladder as of the time of writing, with only part of the midweek 7th round played.

Neither Larissa Crummer nor Tameka Yallop was on the team sheet for either game.
