Four Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) are hosting Aussie players this year, read on to see how they fared in the past week!

After the last round of the Elitedivisionen Champions and Promotion/Relegation round robins, the 2021-22 season is officially over.

Second-placed Fortuna Hjørring ended their campaign with a narrow 1-0 away loss to the competition benchmark HB Køge. It was a memorable season for both Fortuna – taking out the competition silver medal and the Danish Cup – and their Aussies.

Angie Beard was the only Aussie on the card for the final game, playing 90 minutes. Beard appeared in many teams of the week and month throughout the competition. Indiah-Paige Riley is recovering from an ankle injury sustained in the Cup final but will be well satisfied with her form, which led to her becoming a regular starter over the last few months.

As for Clare Wheeler, a picture tells a thousand words …

It was an amazing final round of the Promotion/Relegation round-robin series for Jenna McCormick‘s AGF Aarhus. Having spent the last few weeks looking over their shoulder at third-placed B.93, AGF defeated front runners Sundby 3-1 away, overtaking them to top the ladder! McCormick played half a game in the final round – her leadership and reliability were key to AGF staying in the top flight for next season.

There were once again no Aussies on the park for Round 13 of the Toppserien. Two rounds remain before the summer break.

LSK Kvinner would have gone into their away game against Kolbotn as favourites but were undone by a goalkeeper mis-kick and a left foot Kolbotn piledriver. A fine left foot finish from Julie Dolan Medal winner Fiona Worts wasn’t enough to prevent her team from losing 2-1.

Karly Roestbakken is still working her way back to LSK action from a foot injury, which surgery this week will hopefully address. In the meantime, she is very much enjoying the company of family visiting from Australia as she recuperates.

Beyond 90 are very grateful that a source close to Vålerenga‘s Ally Green got in touch. They have advised that Green’s lack of match-time is not due to the team playing a back three, or because they are having a wow of a season and the lineup is settled, or even because those in the back three are internationals from various Nordic nations. Paperwork – namely working visa issues – is the reason that Green has been unable to get onto the park, but despite this, she is loving her time with the club … and it appears as if her wait may finally be over.

Vålerenga lost their top-of-the-table away game against Brann 1-0, where a Toppserien record attendance of over 10,000 spectators looked on.

Despite the loss, Vålerenga retains their second place on goal difference from Rosenborg.

The second game was a 6-0 win against Kalmar, with both Aussies starting and Grant positioned on the right wing. Grant would have enjoyed this one, scoring the team’s fourth goal – her first for the club.

It was a successful week for Hammarby and Courtney Nevin which started with a 2-0 win at home against Remy Siemsen‘s AIK. Nevin scored the first goal and both Aussies played full games.

A fourth successive Hammarby win finished off their week as they defeated KIF Örebro 1-0 away. Nevin played a full game, while Kyra Cooney-Cross was listed on the teamsheet for the first time, but did not make it onto the park.

AIK’s second game was at home against ninth-placed Pitea, with Siemsen picking up a yellow card in her 90-minute contribution. The home team’s welcome 1-0 win was just their second of the season.

Fifth-placed Vittsjö GIK played a 0-0 away draw against sixth-placed Eskilstuna United in their Round 12 game – Katrina Gorry and Clare Polkinghorne participated for the full 90 minutes. Vittsjö then defeated Kristianstads 2-0 at home, with Polkinghorne’s efforts during the past seven days ensuring she joined Nevin in Viaplay’s Team of the Week.
