Four Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland) are hosting Aussie players this year, read on to see how they fared in the past week!

The second to last rounds in both the Elitedivisionen Champions and Promotion/Relegation round robins have been played.

Second-placed Fortuna Hjørring got themselves back on track with a 2-0 home win over fifth-placed Kolding IF in the Champions series, a fitting final game for departing head coach Brian Sørensen. Indiah-Paige Riley is still recovering from her Cup Final ankle injury, while both Angie Beard and Clare Wheeler played the full 90 minutes. Fortuna is 24 points ahead of their nearest rivals.

By winning their important Round 9 promotion/relegation home game against sixth-placed Odense 2-0, Jenna McCormick‘s AGF Aarhus is all but guaranteed to retain their place in the top flight this year. Mathematically it would be possible for B.93 in third place to overtake AGF, but it would take heavy wins for both ladder leaders Sundby (against AGF) and third-placed B.93 to even enter into the equation.

McCormick played 83 minutes in the Round 9 win.

There were no Aussies on the park for Round 12 of the Toppserien but Julie Dolan Medal winner Fiona Worts finally stamped her class on the league.

A first league start for Worts in LSK Kvinner‘s home game against Stabæk saw her impact the game almost immediately. The Englishwoman capitalised on captain Emilie Woldwik’s delivery into the penalty area on 12 minutes, then assisted two minutes later for LSK’s second.

It was a welcome win for the home side, who have found it difficult to score in recent times, so with Worts on her way perhaps she can bring the team with her. Stabæk were positioned above LSK on the ladder, and there are quiet hopes for better times to come from the mid-table Lillestrøm based team.

Karly Roestbakken is still working her way back to LSK action from ongoing foot soreness.

There were no such form concerns for Ally Green‘s 2nd-placed Vålerenga team, who have been strong performers in 2022. However, they hit a minor roadblock during their Round 12 game against third-placed Rosenborg, drawing 1-1 at home.

Once again Green was unable to force herself into the matchday squad, with the team continuing to favour a back three formation.

Round 11 of the Damallsvenskan saw Teagan Micah and Charli Grant‘s top of the ladder FC Rosengård defeat tenth-placed Pitea 2-1 at home. Micah played a full game, while Grant was an unused substitute.

Hammarby recorded a 5-1 away win against 11th-placed Kalmar this round, with Courtney Nevin continuing to make a difference. Nevin scored the second goal and played 88 minutes. There’s still no sign of Kyra Cooney-Cross being declared as available for match-day inclusion.

Úrvalsdeild karla (

The weekend was free of Úrvalsdeild action but in its place was the Icelandic Milk Cup Round of 16, where most top tier teams played second tier opposition. As is often the case with Icelandic Cup games, team list information is not widely available.

All three teams with Aussies in their squad were victorious and progressed to the quarter-finals.

Teams then backed up for midweek Round 7 league games.

Gema Simon‘s Thróttur Reykjavík came out of their home Milk Cup game against second-tier Vikingur Reykjavik with a narrow 2-1 victory.

Thróttur followed that up with a midweek league 1-0 loss against Stjarnan at home. The loss, in which Simon played 65 minutes, sees Thróttur drop to fourth place on the ladder.

Melina AyresBreiðablik bounced back strongly this week with two victories, having lost two games narrowly on the trot.

In the Cup, Breiðablik had a 4-1 win vs Fjardab/Hottur/Leiknir, and they followed that up with a 6-1 league away win against 9th-placed Afturelding. Ayres played 66 minutes in the league win, which sees her team occupy fifth place.

KR Reykjavik had a mixed bag this week, thrashing Akranes 6-0 away in the Cup (Susan Phonsongkham struck the first goal), but then falling to second-placed Selfoss 3-1 away in the league.
