Australia has remained steady in the latest FIFA Women’s Rankings released on Friday (AEST).

Despite a strong series of wins against New Zealand, Korea Republic and Argentina in this month’s Cup of Nations – the first matches under new head coach Ante Milicic – Australia will head into the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 as the number six nation.

Australia will also enter the tournament as Asia’s highest ranked nation – just ahead of two time World Cup finalists Japan – and for many a tournament dark horse.

Meanwhile the Matildas next opponent, the United States, will head to France as both the reigning world champions and number one ranked nation.

Fellow seeds, Germany (2), England (3), France (4) and Canada (5) all retained their top 5 rankings. England was the only mover of the seeds with their SheBelieves success propelling them to the number 3 position ahead of hosts France.

The next FIFA world rankings will be released after the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
