Match Day 2 of the Primera Iberdrola saw a lot of shocking results and a shakeup in the league table.
One of the more surprising results was Jenna McCormick and her Real Betis teammates losing 2-1 to newly promoted Santa Teresa, who have a draw and a win in their first two matches of the season.
Santa Teresa now sit at sixth in the league while Betis drops down to 16th.
Alex Chidiac and Atlético Madrid had another unforeseen result as they drew 1-1 with Granadilla Tenerife. Atlético was awarded a penalty kick in the 33rd minute but English international Toni Duggan’s shot was saved by Tenerife goalkeeper Aline Reis. Atlético went on to score later in the 53rd minute, however Tenerife were able to equalize in the 90th minute with a penalty kick of their own.
Atlético Madrid have a win, a draw and are third in the league, right behind Athletic Club who are in second.
Over the weekend, Athletic Club beat Sevilla 2-0. There was really no contest from Aivi Luik’s Sevilla and they now drop to 12th in the league with a draw and a loss.
